Gasoline announced that it will no longer make any appearances in North Carolina, as a protest of the state’s HB2 “bathroom bill.”
“We support freedom and equality for all,” Gasoline said in a statement, “and we just feel like allowing ourselves to be combusted by engines in that state would be counter to that goal.”
The strong position is surprising, considering gasoline is plentiful in such harsh, restrictive societies as Saudi Arabia, Iran and Texas.
“Yes,” Gasoline admitted, “while those places may trample on certain people’s rights, they aren’t as unpopular as North Carolina is right now. Producing carbon and destroying the environment is one thing, but when it comes to HB2, we just had to put our foot down.”
