Happy New Year, everyone! I’m sure a lot of people were happy to see 2016 go, but it’s hard not to look back and be thankful for everything that happened in the past year. Personally, I found a full time job in Raleigh, and still get to write about basketball for State – one of my favorite things. And of course, provide you all with this glorious weekly Twitter Roundup. Here’s to Carrie Fisher, bad sports, and the New Year. Here’s to hoping that you’ve maintained those resolutions, two days in. Cheers!
On Carrie Fisher’s Passing: You know her best as Princess Laila from Star Wars, but she was also a badass who took crap from no one, and was loved among plenty outside of Hollywood. A day later, Fisher’s mother was rushed to the hospital and then died shortly after. I guess death from a broken heart is a real thing? RIP to both of them.
We need to create a human shield around Betty White for the next 5 days.

Carrie Fisher was such a force of nature. She was powerful and honest, both on-screen and off. She meant a lot to generations of women.

On The Triangle Sucking At Sports: Carolina took an L during its bowl game in football against Stanford. Thennnn, all three Triangle teams lost in basketball over the next two days. NEW YEAR, WHO DIS??? Burn the tapes. It’s time for conference play in 2017.

On the New Year: I think New Year’s Eve is the most overrated holiday in the entire calendar year, but I totally understand why so many people love it. It’s also a chance to start over or do something that you’ve been really wanting to, so props to those people. I was in bed by 11. *shrugs*

On Mariah Carey’s NYE Performance: Similar to Grayson Allen, this deserves a category entirely of its own. The singer BOMBED her performance after a lipsync fail, and it confirmed the fact that she’s better off being blasted through our radios during Christmastime only.
Man just when you think 2016 is done it takes another. RIP Mariah Carey

On the College Football Playoffs: Alabama did what Alabama does, and Ohio State took the biggest L to Clemson. Looks like we’ve got a rematch from last season for the championship game on January 9 at Raymond James Stadium.
