The NCAA gets plenty of criticism for taking advantage of student athletes–pocketing revenue from bowl games and tournaments while forcing the players to toil along, unpaid.
In fact, despite the “unlimited snacks” rule passed a few years ago, many athletes complain about going to bed hungry. That’s why it’s always fun to take a look at the watches that show up on the wrists of the players at ACC Media Day. They certainly won’t have any trouble knowing when it’s bedtime.
So, for the second year in a row, here’s the All-ACC wrist-wear team, celebrating the best way to spend that full-cost-of-attendance stipend.
MVP: Jaylen Samuels, NC State:
His red shoes captured all the media attention, but the gold-on-gold timepiece was all but shouting “eyes up here!” Bonus points for the fact that his coach wore a free Camping World Bowl watch to media day.
Runner up: Christian Wilkins, Clemson:
He and his Tigers took home the College Football Playoff national championship last season, and his choice of wrist-wear is worthy of another crystal football trophy. The watch is bulky but functional, much like Wilkins himself. The silver band and large black face are worthy of an at-large bid to the playoff.
